Goldwork, Leather & Silk Hummingbird

£350.00
''I'd like to be like a hummingbird. You see them every now and then. You don't see them everywhere.''

The elusiveness of hummingbirds has ever intrigued me. Their iridescent wings paint the skies before gracefully poising on a lone branch. A magnificent bird that teaches us to take delight in the little things in life. Indeed, it is the little things that are the big things

I have created this hummingbird using specialised Goldwork metals, leather, silk and cotton threads on an organic cotton calico. I begin by using several layers of felt padding to secure a body and head. A tapered, 3-d effect is created with varying sizes of felt padding which act as a cushion for the Goldwork wires. I then measure and cut several individual green and gold wires to stitch down in a pattern for the wings. The head is stitched using leather. I have used textured silks and cottons for the longer hind wings.

Set in a 7" wood effect oval embroidery hoop ready to hang or display in your home.

*Twig not included*

This piece is made to order so kindly allow 2 weeks for me to create your embroidery, Unfortunately I do not more images of this piece as it was a commission for a lovely client
